David Arkright Sampson was born in Tampa, Florida, in 1953. He graduated from Georgia State University in Atlanta, where he has lived nearly his entire life. His work has been displayed in the Old Executive Office Building in Washington, D.C., and he was selected as Atlanta’s official artist in the 1996 Cultural Paralympiad, which followed the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. Born with cerebral palsy, Sampson works as an advocate for the disabled. His organization, Ark Atlanta Artworks, seeks, in part, to promote original artwork by those with disabilities.
Sampson’s pencil piece Silence (1988) is part of Georgia’s State Art Collection.
